The recent rise of the ebook readers and the appearance of the Apple iPad has generated an interest in mobile gadgets other than the cell phone. Although the difference between the ebook reader and the tablet has been somewhat compromised in reality the two devices are very different.

The fundamental difference between a tablet and an ebook reader is quite simple. A tablet is a mobile computing device whereas an ebook reader isn’t.

The term ‘tablet PC’ was first introduced by Microsoft in 2001. The concept was built round a mobile computing device that used a pen to input information and would generally include handwriting recognition software. Also it would be a truly mobile device with wireless connectivity.

The accepted screen size of a tablet PC was considered twelve inches; the screen is measured corner to corner diagonally. There are but numerous tablets that are smaller than this which isn’t a problem because of the improvements in screen resolutions.

The first portable device that was quoted as an ebook reader was the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Essentially a PDA was an electronic filofax. As an ebook reader the PDA was limited by its size and the LCD screen.

The first ebook reader using e ink technology, the Librié EBR-1000EP was released by Sony in Japan in 2004. This was followed by the PRS-500 in the US in 2007 and then followed by the PRS-505 in 2008. The Kindle was released by Amazon in late 2007. It is fascinating to note that the ilex Iliad was available in 2006 but never made an impact due to the price, and presumably, because they didn’t have the marketing power of Sony behind them.

The distinction between an ebook reader and the tablet PC is not always simple to pin down. Tools that are useful for both types of device have been included by manufacturers.

With built in speakers or a headphone jack it is possible to listen to audio on most ebook readers and tablets. While tablets can show video and different graphic formats in full color. ebook readers are restricted to grayscale graphics but the facility is still there and can be very useful.

A key feature of the tablet PC is the input with a pen or using touch which a few ebook readers have adopted. Some ebook readers have a physical keyboard while others have a virtual keyboard. These are generally used for navigation or simple tasks.

Another feature is the wireless connectivity. This is a key feature for a tablet for data transfer, effectively allowing streaming video and gaming. Some ebook readers have adopted this although it is usually in a very limited form.

Having to draw the line somewhere and say what is or isn’t an ebook reader we would have to say that the color ebook reader is not here yet. Fundamentally an ebook reader should have a show the same as real paper and any device that doesn’t use E Ink and uses an LCD color show simply cannot be classed as an ebook reader.

We can expect that the color ebook reader is just around the corner and with the ever increasing computing power it will be even more hard to make a valid comparison. Will it be a tablet, an ebook reader, or will we see the birth of a whole new genre of digital products.

Prophets’ Names Appear in the Ebla Tablets, 1500 Years Older Than the Torah

Dating back to around 2500 BC, the Ebla tablets provide very vital information regarding the history of religions. The most vital feature of the Ebla tablets, learned by archaeologists in 1975 and which have been the subject of much research and debate ever since, is that they contain the names of three prophets referred to in holy scriptures.

The discovery after thousands of years of the Ebla tablets and the information they contain is extremely vital from the point of view of clarifying the geographical location of societies revealed in the Qur’an.

Around 2500 BC, Ebla was a kingdom covering an area that included the Syrian capital Damascus and south-east Turkey. This kingdom reached a cultural and economic peak but later, as happened to a fantastic many civilizations, it disappeared from the stage of history. It was apparent from the records that were kept that the Kingdom of Ebla was a major cultural and commercial center of the time. (1) The people of Ebla possessed a civilization that established state archives, built libraries and recorded commercial contracts in written form. They even had their own language, known as Eblaite.

The History of Buried Religions

The right importance of the Kingdom of Ebla, regarded as a fantastic success for classical archaeology when first learned in 1975, came to light with the finding of some 20,000 cuneiform tablets and fragments. This archive was four times greater than all the cuneiform texts known to archaeologists over the last 3,000 years.

When the language used in the tablets was deciphered by the Italian Giovanni Pettinato, an epigrapher from the University of Rome, the scale of their importance was better understood. As a result of this, the finding of the Kingdom of Ebla and this magnificent state archive became a matter not just of archaeological interest, but one of interest to religious circles, too. That was because as well as the names Michael (Mi-ka-il) and Talut (Sa-u-lum), who struggled alongside the Prophet David, they also contained the names of prophets mentioned in the three holy books: The Prophet Abraham (Ab-ra-mu), the Prophet David (Da-u-dum) and the Prophet Ishamel (Ish-ma-il). The Importance of the Names on the Ebla Tablets

The names of the prophets identified in the Ebla tablets are of the greatest importance as this was the first time that they had been encountered in historical documents of such age. This information, dating back to 1500 years before the Torah, was most striking. The appearance in the tablets of the name of the Prophet Abraham recorded that the Prophet Abraham and the religion brought by him had existed before the Torah.

Historians analyzed the Ebla tablets from this perspective, and this major discovery regarding the Prophet Abraham and his mission became the subject of research with regard to the history of religions. David Noel Freedman, an American archaeologist and researcher into the history of religions, reported, based on his studies, the names of such prophets as Abraham and Ishmael in the tablets. (3)

Other Names in the Tablets

As stated above the names in the tablets were those of prophets referred to in the three holy books, and the tablets were far older than the Torah. In addition to these names there were also other subjects and place names in the tablets, from which it can be seen that the Eblaites were very successful traders. The names Sinai, Gaza and Jerusalem, not too distant from Ebla, also appeared in the texts, showing that the Eblaites loved commercial and cultural links with these places. (4)

One vital detail seen in the tablets was the names of the areas of Sodom and Gomorrah, where the people of Lot lived. It is known that Sodom and Gomorrah was a region on the shore of the Dead Sea where the people of Lot lived and where the Prophet Lot communicated his message and called people to live by religious moral values. In addition to these two names, that of the city of Iram, which appears in the verses of the Qur’an, is also among those in the Ebla tablets.

The most noteworthy aspect of these names is that apart from in the texts communicated by the prophets, they had never before appeared in any other text. This is vital documentary evidence showing that reports of the prophets who communicated the message of the one right religion at that time had reached those areas. In an article in Reader’s Digest magazine it was recorded that that there had been a change in the Eblaites’ religion during the reign of King Ebrum and that people had begun to add prefixes to their names in order to exalt the name of Almighty God.

God’s Promise Is Right…

The history of Ebla and the Ebla tablets which came to light after some 4,500 years really point to one major truth: God sent messengers to Ebla, as He did to every community, and these called their peoples to the right religion.

Some people adhered to the religion that came to them and thus attained the right path, while others opposed the message of the prophets and preferred a wicked life. God, Lord of the heavens, the earth, and all that lies between, reveals this fact in the Qur’an:

We sent a Messenger among every people saying: “Worship God and keep clear of all fake deities.” Among them were some whom God guided but others received the misguidance they deserved. Travel about the earth and see the final fate of the deniers. (Qur’an, 16: 36)

Have you heard about the tablet PC?

You might as well get used to the term because if high tech experts are right, it’s about to take the computing world by storm.

Of all the personal technology advances we’ve seen over the past five years, the Tablet PC has to rank among the most significant. For the Tablet PC is truly one of the most innovative and useful products that is just now starting to gain major traction. These machines, which are powered by a specially tweaked version of the Windows XP operating system, allow users to scribble notes on a screen with a pen-like stylus, turning handwriting or block printing into what’s called digital ink.

Although Tablet PCs have been on the market for a few years now, much of the public has been unexposed to them. That’s about to change. Tablet PCs are now showing up on TV commercials, in magazine and newspaper ads and being exuberantly talked about through word of mouth. Maybe it’s time for you to consider one.

Some Tablets are slate models only. That means there is no keyboard, just the screen. You write on them like those ancient Etch-a-Sketches that kids used to play with. Others, are called convertibles. Flip the screen up and it looks and works like a notebook computer, with a keyboard, CD/DVD slot, track pad and the like. But swivel the screen around and down over the keyboard and it’s a slate.

All of the huge computer makers produce Tablet PC models: Dell, Gateway, Toshiba, Lenovo (IBM), Fujitsu and others. There are a couple of Tablet-only makers, too, like Motion Computing and Rugged Computers. Even Apple Computer with its fabled Macintosh line is rumored to be close to developing a Tablet version.

The cost of a Tablet depends on how yoy equip it. I suggest at least 1GB of memory/ And if a CD/DVD drive isnt included, either as a built-in internal option or as an external device, make sure you order one. Wi-Fi and BlueTooth is standard on most Tablets.

But you can figure spending around ,000 for a full-featured model.

Over the past couple of years, Tablets have sold honestly well in what are known as vertical markets, among niche interest groups like students (fantastic for note-taking and recording lectures), medical professionals (for keeping track of patient records) and salespeople (for forms and order-taking). Indeed, some schools are now giving Tablet PCs to their students, that’s how fantastic they are as educational tools.

But now that the momentum has built up, most observers are convinced the real market is much larger … and largely untapped, if you’ll excuse the pun.

The Tablet PC does everything a regular computer does. It has a complete Windows XP operating system and can run all of the normal programs and applications consumers are used to on their desktops and laptops. The huge difference is that with a Tablet PC, you can also use that electronic stylus to run many programs, taking notes by hand or tapping on the individual letters of an on-screen keyboard representation to type.

Handwriting can be converted to type with just a tap of the stylus, though, obviously, the neater you write or print, the more accurate will be the conversion into type.

I’ve been a a tablet user for several years and, truthfully, I seldom convert handwritten notes on the Tablet. I don’t need to. I can read my own notes just fine. And there’s something satisfyingly personal about seeing my scribbes on a computer screen. It’s sort of the ultimate in customization.

While a Tablet does everything a regular computer does, they have the added advantage of some special tablet-only software enhancements. I bought a add-on to the Outlook program that lets me use digital ink to enter calendar, to-do, journal and contact info. And a program called PlanPlus from Franklin Covey puts the equivalent of a Franklin Planner on my Tablet. I’ve fallen in like with this application.

Then there’s Microsoft OneNote, which comes bundled on many of the Tablets sold today or can be bought separately for . OneNote I believe, is the most amazingly useful application for any platform I have ever tried.

Besides the digital ink note-taking and organizational features, OneNote uses the built in microphone on the Tablet to record meetings, lectures, interviews, whatever you want. As you take notes of a presentation and hear something that’s vital, make a star or exclamation mark next to someone’s words that you’ve jotted down, just as you do with pen and paper notes. Afterwards, as you review the notes, you can tap on the special mark you made to hear the actual recording of the subject as the presenter spoke the information.

No matter how much I use OneNote, it blows me away every time.

If you’re thinking about a new laptop and if note-taking is a part of your life, a tablet should be at the top of your shopping list.

It’s that handy.

Is a Tablet PC right for you?

Obviously, only you can answer that. But it’s been my esperience as a longtime road warrior who has used all sorts of laptops, that the Tablet PC offers so many more features and so much more convenience than a standard laptop that I would never go back.

Most of us reckon of the grocery store check out, department store credit transaction terminals or the mail delivery service when we reckon of stylus pens- a plastic tool resembling a pen, usually attached by a cord to sign our signatures in agreement to payment, into an electronic tablet recorder. Stylus tools have been around since ancient Egyptians used river reeds to scroll into clay tablets, but now with the age of the touch screen, we may not be using stylus tools any longer- simply our finger tips is all that is needed.

The New Stylus is Now Your Finger!

With new <a title=Touch screen at Cirque! rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=http://www.cirque.com/uploads/products/touch_screen_panel.html>touch screen</a> technology, all one needs is their own fingertips to go objects around a screen. Microsoft’s new touch screen coffee table, Apple’s iPhone and several other touch screen gadgets now on the market only require one’s finger as a stylus pen, leaving the ancient plastic stylus pens on the shelf.

Even though the iPhone can be touched with one’s fingertips people have complained that their pudgy fingers always hit extra buttons and that they prefer to use a stylus instead, like they would with a Palm Pilot. For exactly this reason, and several others, the stylus pen won’t be disappearing altogether, only evolving with the times.

Ah, the Pogo- a new type of stylus that is made to simulate a pointer, with the ability to connect with the <a title=Capacitive sensor at Cirque! rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=http://www.cirque.com/uploads/technologies/capacitive_sensor.html>capacitive sensor</a> of new hi-tech touch screens, like the iPhone, or other touch screen phones. Therefore, people with long nails, pudgy fingers or those wearing gloves, rather than removing them, can just use their Pogo to activate the capacitive sensor.

What ‘s the Capacitive Sensor All About?

A capacitive touch screen panel is coated with a thin indium tin oxide material that conducts continuous electrical currents across a sensor- say a touch screen of an iPhone. So it exudes a controlled electronic field in both a vertical and horizontal axis and therefore is capacitive. In order for the capacitive technology to function, it must be touched by something else that also exhibits electricity- like the human body. When a person’s finger touches a capacitive screen, it sends an electric current to then form a mathematical function which signals an action.

So it’s Not Really The End for the Stylus Pen?

Well, not exactly. Technology is quick for sure, but people can be relatively slow to catch up. Therefore, PDAs with stylus pens and grocery stores and malls with stylus pens on their tablets will likely be around for quite some time. After all, our fingers are designed to touch, but make a lousy tool for delicate drawings, writing more than a sentence or touching something teeny and delicate. It’s likely that unless our fingers get skinnier, the stylus pen will be around for quite some time.

Welcome to my first ever unboxing, if youre looking for anything other than the unboxing of this small beauty then you have come to the incorrect video lol. The tablet is from Wacom and is called “Bamboo pen & touch”. I got it for PC World here in the UK, it was in store for £100 although I got that down to £70 which is basically the web price. I have been testing it out for a while and Im really impressed and Im glad I finally bought it. Heres my small review for you guys. Design: A huge plus for this tablet is the design, it looks brilliant with a nice matted looked on the outer edges and a sleek glossy part which is there for purely aesthetic reasons. The design is fantastic and for most artists and designers out there the design wont disappoint. The tablet is a perfect size, you could have it on your lap or on a table with no problem. Also it is very thin but doesnt feel tacky, easily breakable and doesnt even bend. Overall for the design Id give it a 9.5/10. Functionality: The tablet works fantastic on my laptop, it works with 16:9 aspect ratio with no problem and Im guessing it will with non widescreen monitors to. The pen utilizes every bit of the screen so its very efficient, there is no parts of screen the tablet wont be able to reach. The pen pressure works well with programs such as Corel painter 11 and Photoshop although I have experienced a few issues using it with CS4 although this seems to be a CS4 issue not the tablet itself, nothing major and still works well.
